“Searching for Peace in the Middle East”
with Landrum Bolling
The United Church of Christ of Seneca Valley (UCCSV) will host an
Evening with Landrum Bolling, featuring a screening of his film,“Searching for Peace in the Middle East,” on Sunday, March 30 at 7:30
pm. Following the screening Dr. Bolling will give brief remarks
informed by his recent visit to the region, and answer questions from
the audience.
Dr. Bolling has worked tirelessly for peace in the Middle-East for
thirty five years. During the administration of President Jimmy Carter,
when direct official communication between Washington and the PLO was
forbidden, he was one of the informal, "nonofficial" links entrusted
with delivering messages between the U.S. government and top
Palestinian leaders.
Trained as a political scientist at the University of Tennessee and the
University of Chicago, Dr. Bolling served on the faculties of Beloit
College, Brown University and Earlham College, where he was president
for 15 years. He was also president of the Tantur Ecumenical Institute
in Jerusalem, a gathering place for Israelis and Palestinians in the
pursuit of peace.
Dr. Bolling also served as President of the Lilly Endowment, one of the
largest grant-making foundations in the world, and as Chief Executive
Officer of the Council on Foundations. He has received more than 30
honorary doctorates from U.S. and foreign universities. In June of 2000
he was honored, along with Senator George Mitchell, with "Peacemaker/Peace Builder" award by the National Peace Foundation.
Dr. Bolling currently serves as Director-at-Large on the Board of Mercy
Corps, and is a Trustee at the Foundation for Middle East Peace (FMEP).
A preview of the film is available on the FMEP web site at:
