Requests for Prayers
Prayer is one of the most central and important practices of faith. It’s one of the clear instructions the disciples received from Jesus, and one of the primary components of any service of worship. Even when we’re traveling, shut in, or otherwise unable to participate in the life of the community, prayer is something each of us can offer on behalf of the body of Christ.
Several people either have asked for prayers, or asked what happens to those prayers lifted up on Sunday mornings.
Requests for prayer come in several ways. Some requests come by email either to the office (uccsv@verizon.net) or to Carolyn (preachrmom@aol.com). Others are shared verbally by phone (301-540-3449) or in person, and still others are requested on Sunday morning with the Prayer Request cards. Please don’t assume that a specific request has been made—it’s better to receive multiple requests than to have none.
After Sunday morning prayers are lifted up, the list is shared in our Monday staff meeting, then distributed electronically to the Deacons and to those who have asked to be included in the electronic distribution. Those receiving the prayer request list are asked to pray for the list some time during the week in which it’s received. If you wish to be added to the electronic distribution, please let the office know.
It is not a perfect system—it depends on members and friends letting us know when they wish prayers to be offered, and it depends on members and friends making the time to pray.
